It's been exactly a week when I started my new job. Here is a recap of the week:

Feb 10: first day of work!

  • It was the first day of work! My body jolted awake at 7:30 am with anxiety swirling inside me. When I'm anxious, I feel nauseous easily; hence, for breakfast, I consumed a blueberry cereal bar and took my Vitamin D. And of course we all want to make a good impression on our first day of work, so I brushed my teeth and dressed professionally, yet a little bit casually and away to work I go. Oh, and for those who struggle with anxiety, definitely practice your daily mantras.
  • Heading to work was like a battlefield, waiting for the TTC bus (I am from Toronto, Canada), people's backpacks pushing me from side to side, and most of all, trying to avoid people's germs. That said, I was mortified when Google Maps notified me stating my second bus would take approximately 44 mins to arrive. I thought to myself, "Great, I am going to be late on my first day of work." That being said, I was lucky. My second bus took approximately 10 mins to arrive.
  • I arrived approximately 20 mins early to work, I didn't know what to do. I was standing around the door like an idiot until someone (a man) noticed me pacing around opens the door for me. It was funny. The man thought I was there for an interview. When I entered the small brown building for the first time, I was in awe. The people seemed friendly as they all greeted me, and the building was super fun and casual—there was a pool table as well as a foosball table, how cool! Not to mention, along the way I met a cute floofy brown doggo just wandering casually around the building. As the day went on, I got a tour around the building and I was assigned to my desk. For the majority of the day, my brain was dying to sleep, as I was watching back to back videos about the typical workplace safety etc.
  • At 1pm it was lunch time, my stomach was growling, but my anxiety started to steep in where I no longer had the appetite. That said, my manager invited another new co-worker and I out for lunch as it was our first day. We were debating for awhile, and we ended up hitting up a brunch spot beside us—I ended up ordering a salad.
  • As I headed home, it was around 6:20pm. I was surprised to see that my family waited for me to eat dinner. However, it was more surprising to me that my older sister had decided to visit us (she no longer lives with us) and delivered me a brown sugar bubble tea to celebrate my first day of work—it was sweet and the tapioca was bouncy and chewy.

Feb 11: awkward lunchtimes

  • It was the second day of work and I am already dreading. I hated going back to the life that I never wanted. I felt like I lost my freedom—my time.
  • The majority of the day was very overwhelming as it was packed with meetings which felt like it was back to back. We had a company-wide meeting where I introduced myself for the first time. Surprisingly, I wasn't feeling too nervous.
  • At 1pm sharp it was lunch. Nerves begins to consume me as I had to sit with people who were on my team. Being awkward and shy didn't help, I didn't really know what to say as people were chatting away. I ate my lunch silently and made small chats here and there.
  • As I headed home, I spent an hour working on my book cover for my newest book soon to be released next week!
  • And of course, I ended the night watching the newest season of DONDI (Deal or No Deal Island).

Feb 12: last day of lunar new years

  • Today was the same as usual. Heading to work, being bombarded with videos and meetings. Trying not to fall asleep. Near the end of the day, we were dismissed at 4:15pm. I was in the middle of a meeting with my manager, and all the sudden a man approached me warning me to head home as the weather is starting to change (a snow storm was approaching in Toronto). I took the company laptop with me and it was heavy like I was carrying a brick. @.@ As I left, the clouds darkened and little flurries started to fall from the sky.
  • I'm a little sad that Lunar New Year is already coming to an end. We had a family dinner with pork belly, BBQ pork, noodles, as well as sweeten soup mochis (peanut and black sesame flavor). During this time, I also got to catch up with my sister about her wedding planning, work and life in general.

Feb 13: work from home, snow day

  • Woke up at 7:30am to an email stating I can work from home as there was a snow storm headed our way. Yippie \o/ — I did a little dance on the inside. Of course, I took advantage of this and went back to bed to get a little bit more sleep.
  • And of course, it is not a surprise by now, but I spent the majority of the day consuming more videos about the company. That said, I am starting to feel a little overwhelmed as I took a peek into the next week's schedule and it is packed with shadowing. My inside is filled with nerves having to think about talking to clients again.
  • Watching Traitors season 3 was the best part of my night—currently rooting for Carolyn!

Feb14: valentine's day ♥

  • It's Valentine's Day! And it was finally the end of the work week. I was super ecstatic as I headed home and rewarded/treated myself to one of Lay's limited edition chips—cheesy garlic bread. As with most chip bags, I was a little disappointed since most of the bag was filled with air. That said, when I first opened the bag my nostrils immediately filled a garlicky smell as if there were cheesy garlic breads in the bag. Overall, the taste was good—garlic and cheesy. I wouldn't recommend it though since it cost me approximately $4 for a small amount. As I headed home, I was also greeted with fresh sushi (mix of raw salmon and California rolls) from T&T—my favorite is raw salmon sushi.
  • I ended up falling asleep for the rest of the night.
