Movie Review | Avatar: Fire and Ash

Every new year my family has a tradition of going to the movie theaters. This year my family and I went to watch Avatar: Fire and Ash at Cineplex Cinemas Pickering and VIP (Centre, 1355 Kingston Rd, Pickering, ON L1V 1B8, Canada).

This was my first time going to this theater and overall I was very impressed. The seats were big, comfy and retractable. There was also a lot of leg room space, making it easy for people to walk up and down the aisle or to extend their legs without kicking the back of another person's seat.  My overall experience with this theater has exceeded my expectations and I would definitely go back again.

Moving along, the total running time of the film is as follows:

  • Running Time: 3 hours 17mins
  • Genre: Action, Adventure, Science Fiction

Just to note, I watched the movie in Ultra AVX, 3D and after watching the film here are my thoughts:

  • As expected, the graphics were beautiful—there were times where I felt like I was in an open world video game. I also enjoyed the soundtrack of the film as well, enhancing the overall film and making it feel breathtaking.
  • The overall format/layout of the movie was similar to the Way of the Water (2nd Avatar movie), for example, Kiri saving her mother and Tuk, making it a little repetitive.
  • Because there are multiple subplots going on, there were times where I felt lost and I didn't understand what was happening at certain points of the story.
  • Spoiler: There are two main characters that get cut off from the movie (dies), but the death of the characters gets brushed off as if they didn't matter, which was odd and disappointing.
  • Overall, I enjoyed this movie but it wasn't as captivating as the second movie and it felt like a repeat of the Way of the Water. The movie was over 3 hours and I believe it could have been shorter. There was also a lack of character development as well, making the characters a little static and dull.
  • Rating: 7/10
