Movie Review | Even If This Love Disappears Tonight
As a lover of Korean dramas and romance movies, I had to watch Even If This Love Disappears Tonight that is newly released on Netflix.
Even If This Love Disappears Tonight is a remake of the 2022 Japanese film Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight, which is also based on the novel of the same name. The story follows a high school girl who suffers from anterograde amnesia, causing her memories to reset every night. One day, she decides to go out with a shy highschool boy.
- Running Time: 1 hour 45mins
- Genre: Romance
Here is my review after watching this film:
- When I first read the synopsis, the movie reminded me of One Week Friends which has a similar plot based on a Japanese Manga.
- Both of the main actors and actresses did an amazing job in portraying their characters in a natural manner, which conveyed the story. For example, the actress does an amazing job in portraying her daily struggles and challenges she faces in trying to recall her memories. The music within the film was also beautiful in which certain points of the film have created a sense of calmness and peaceful vibe, in which it hits emotionally later on. That said, I also enjoyed the cinematography of the film—the locations, background scenes were breathtaking.
- The plot was a little disappointing as it didn't offer anything new and it wasn't as impactful as I thought it would be. Something that the movie could have done better is by including scenes of female lead's past to better explain what had happened to her. Throughout the entire movie, I constantly thought to myself, "What accident caused the female lead's amnesia?" The film could have also been better if they made the male lead's health issues more of a mystery so that the ending of the film could have hit more emotionally to the viewers.
- Overall, this was a heartwarming film about love and life. And as mentioned, the ending of the film was very predictable since there were multiple scenes within the film where it foreshadowed the character's death—hence, I wasn't too emotional since it was quite obvious.
- Rating: 7/10
